Meet Devin Elise Watt
Poetry, action movies and board games are just some of the things Devin enjoys in her free time, but there’s one thing she enjoys most of all: striving to support the mission of The Chicago Lighthouse.
Born with congenital rubella and now considered legally blind with glaucoma and nystagmus, the Chicago native discovered us in 2008, when she visited our Career Day event, which provides information and opportunities to people with disabilities interested in working with The Lighthouse. Devin found her fit in our Recipient Identification Number (RIN) program, a collaborative effort between The Chicago Lighthouse and the Illinois Department of Human Services. Devin worked in the program for six years where she earned high marks for her strong work ethic. Recognizing her talent and her passion for helping people with disabilities, Devin was then referred to The Lighthouse Industries program as a Print Room Operator, printing calendars and clock faces for both government and commercial use. Shining in her new position, she was promoted this month to Production Support and Vocational Training Instructor. In this role, she manages day-to-day activities of the workshop floor.
Devin attributes her success to her lust for life and her passion for the people she meets here.
“I love The Lighthouse. I’m honored to be part of a team that drives such an amazing cause and I love meeting new people here.”
When asked what her favorite aspect of The Lighthouse, she didn’t hesitate for a second.
“I love our mission. I love that The Lighthouse helps people with disabilities, Veterans and so many others work and grow as individuals. It’s such a rewarding experience!”
