Internship & Volunteer Opportunities
Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers and interns who donate their time and skills to help us meet the needs of the people we serve.
To intern or volunteer at The Chicago Lighthouse, you must meet the following criteria:
- Must be 18 or older
- No criminal background; background checks are conducted prior to start date
Internship Opportunities
Employment Services Intern
Has or in the process of getting degree in Vocational Rehabilitation. Expected to maintain all information confidential. (M-F, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., onsite)

Volunteer Opportunities
Ongoing Opportunities
Volunteers who wish to be involved on a regular basis provide essential support for the day-to-day needs of our programs. Ongoing opportunities include working directly with clients, providing administrative support to staff and reading news articles for our radio station.
Please note, by completing our Volunteer Application, we expect a minimum commitment of six months of service, participating at least two times per month for all ongoing volunteers. This excludes any temporary opportunities, indicated as such.
CRIS Radio, Reader
Read newspaper and other articles verbatim on air for CRIS Radio. Excellent reading skills and clear voice. (1-2 hours/week, flexible schedule, remote)
Seniors Program, Liaison*
Assist Seniors Program clients as they arrive and depart, as well as navigate around the building during program hours. (Tuesdays, between 10:30 a.m. and 3:15 p.m., onsite)
Adult Living Skills, Assistant*
Work with adults who have multiple disabilities, assist staff with general daily schedule and help clients navigate around the building. If available, assist on field trips. (M-F, between 8:30 a.m. and 3p.m., onsite)
Adult Living Skills, VisionQuest Liaison*
Serve as liaison for band members traveling to and from rehearsal and performances. Assist with distribution of lunches. No musical experience required. (Tuesdays & Thursdays, between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., onsite)
Front Desk, Greeter
Greet guests and clients in the front lobby and track client arrivals and departures. Friendly and personable individual. (M-F, between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m., flexible hours, onsite)
*Everyone in this program must be vaccinated for the safety of the seniors
Special Events
Special events volunteers provide support for events such as fundraisers, seniors activities and other events. Special events are a great way to get involved if you have a restrictive schedule or are not available during our general hours of operation.
To volunteer for a special event, please contact our volunteer coordinator (contact information below). Please include your first and last name, phone number, email and general availability.
Corporate Groups
We welcome corporate volunteer groups of up to 10 people for 2-3 hours at a time. All corporate volunteers are offered a tour of our facility to learn more about the variety of programs and services we offer.
We kindly request a $500 minimum donation to The Chicago Lighthouse on behalf of your organization to help offset staff time spent with your group.
