OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY TIP – USING YOUR KEYS
If you have any trouble using keys to lock/unlock doors, maybe some of these tips will be helpful:

  • Use different colored keys for different locks.
  • Use key covers or tactile markings like puff paint, bump dots, or a piece of Velcro to find the right key by touch.
  • Use a carabiner as a keychain to make it easy to hold onto & clip onto your bag so you can find them easily.
  • Use your non-dominant hand to locate the keyhole, then holding the key in your dominant hand, line it up with your non-dominant hand to place the key in the lock.

AUDIO DESCRIPTIVE MOVIE – TILL
IN-PERSON ONLY IN CHICAGO
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 1 to 3:15pm
Till is a profoundly emotional & cinematic film about the true story of Mamie Till Mobley’s relentless pursuit of justice for her 14-year-old son, Emmett Till, who, in 1955, was lynched while visiting his cousins in Mississippi. In Mamie’s poignant journey of grief turned to action, we see the universal power of a mother’s ability to change the world. Rated PG-13. RSVP to Melissa at: (847) 510-2060.

AUDIO DESCRIPTIVE MOVIE – FATHER OF THE BRIDE
IN-PERSON ONLY IN GLENVIEW
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 1 to 3pm
This comedy/drama/romance movie will be shown with audio description. Love is simple, family is not! In this remake of Father of the Bride, star student & law school grad Sofia Herrera is home in Miami for a visit. What she doesn’t know is that her wealthy Cuban parents, Billy & Ingrid are splitting up. When Sofia announces that she’s engaged, Billy & Ingrid opt to hide their divorce until after the wedding. Sofia’s fiancé, Adan is a modern man who does yoga & plans to prioritize his wife’s career, which confuses the more traditional Billy. The antics really get going when Adan’s Mexican family — led by uber-rich patriarch Hernan Castillo — arrives, an underqualified wedding planner gets involved, & Sofia’s unconventional sister, Cora, is drafted to make the bridal party’s dresses. Rated PG-13. RSVP to Melissa at: (847) 510-2060.

BOOK CLUB ** DATE CHANGE: THE DIAMOND EYE: IN-PERSON IN GLENVIEW & CALL-IN
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 2 to 3pm
This month, we will discuss the novel, The Diamond Eye by Kate Quinn, listening time, 13 hours. TBBS Book #DB107522. RSVP to Melissa at: (847) 510-2060.
In the snowbound city of Kiev wry & bookish history student Mila organizes her life around her library job & her young son—but Hitler’s invasion of Ukraine & Russia sends her on a different path. Given a rifle & sent to join the fight, Mila must forge herself from studious girl to deadly sniper—a lethal hunter of Nazis known as Lady Death. When news of her 300th kill makes her a national heroine, Mila finds herself torn from the bloody battlefields of the eastern front & sent to America on a goodwill tour. Still reeling from war wounds & devastated by loss, Mila finds herself isolated & lonely in the glittering world of Washington, DC—until an unexpected friendship with First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt & an even more unexpected connection with a silent fellow sniper offer the possibility of happiness. But when an old enemy from Mila’s past joins forces with a deadly new foe lurking in the shadows, Lady Death finds herself battling her own demons & enemy bullets in the deadliest duel of her life. Based on a true story, The Diamond Eye is a haunting novel of heroism born of desperation, of a mother who became a soldier, of a woman who found her place in the world & changed the course of history forever.
