Rise to Shine for the community!
Thank you for your interest in volunteering for our third annual Rise to Shine Inclusive Run & Walk scheduled on Sunday, October 20, 2024! Your contribution as a volunteer plays a crucial role in making this event a success for all.

To help make this year’s race a successful and positive experience, please take a few moments to review the policies below:

Volunteers must register online by Monday, October 16, 2024 and sign the Acknowledgement of Risk and Waiver Liability.
Training is mandatory for packet pick up, athletes with disabilities tent, and course marshal volunteers. A training schedule and online link will be sent to volunteers in early October. For most other volunteer positions, no prior training is provided, but volunteers will receive an instruction sheet via email before race weekend and instruction when arriving at their volunteer position.

The Chicago Lighthouse Rise To Shine 5K/10K/1M Participant Acknowledgment of Risk and Waiver of Liability*

Read this Acknowledgement of Risk and Waiver of Liability carefully and in its entirety. It is a
binding legal document.

I know that participating in the “The Chicago Lighthouse and The Chicago Central Lions Club Rise to Shine Race/Walk” is a potentially hazardous activity, and I should not enter and participate unless I am medically able and properly trained. I acknowledge and assume any and all risks associated with this event including, but not limited to, traffic on the course route, falls, contact with other participants, and the condition of the course, including, but not limited to, curbs, cars, uneven pavement, potholes, rocks, and objects on the course surface. Knowing and appreciating these risks
and in consideration of your acceptance of my entry, I hereby for myself, my heirs, representatives or anyone else claiming on my behalf, covenant not to sue, and waive, release, and discharge The Chicago Lighthouse and The Chicago Central Lions Club, its volunteers, and sponsors, and anyone else acting for or on behalf of The Chicago Lighthouse and The Chicago Central Lions Club (“Releasees”) from any and all claims of liability for death, personal injury, or damage of any kind arising out of my participation in this run. I also consent to emergency treatment in the event of injury or illness. I acknowledge that any injuries or illnesses that I sustain may be compounded
by negligent emergency response or rescue operations. I grant full permission to The Chicago Lighthouse and The Chicago Central Lions Club and/or any person or entity authorized by it to use my name, age, date of birth, finish place and finish time in the public domain. I further grant full permission for The Chicago Lighthouse and The Chicago Central Lions Club to use any photographs, recordings, or any other record of this event for any purpose. This Acknowledgement of Risk and Waiver of Liability extends to all claims of every kind whatsoever.

This Acknowledgement of Risk and Waiver of Liability constitutes the sole and entire agreement of the Releasees and me with respect to the subject matter contained herein and supersedes all prior and contemporaneous understandings, agreements, representations, and warranties, both written and oral, with respect to such subject matter. If any term or provision of this Acknowledgement of
Risk and Waiver of Liability is invalid, illegal, or unenforceable in any jurisdiction, such invalidity,
illegality, or unenforceability shall not affect any other term or provision of this Acknowledgement of Risk and Waiver of Liability or invalidate or render unenforceable such term or provision in any other jurisdiction. This Acknowledgement of Risk and Waiver of Liability is binding on and shall inure to the benefit of Releasees and me (the “Parties”), as well the Parties’ respective successors and assigns. All matters arising out of or relating to this Acknowledgement of Risk and Waiver of
Liability shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the internal laws of the State of
Illinois without giving effect to any choice or conflict of law provision or rule (whether of the State of Illinois or any other jurisdiction). Any claim or cause of action arising under this Acknowledgement of Risk and Waiver of Liability may be brought only in the federal and state courts located in Cook County, Illinois and I hereby consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of such courts.

My signature acknowledges that I have read and understood all of the terms in the above waiver and that I am voluntarily giving up substantial legal rights, including the right to sue Releasees. I agree and accept all terms and conditions set forth herein.
