Foglia’s first resident
For Chicago native Calvin, securing an apartment at The Foglia Residences has opened up a world of possibilities. After experiencing vision loss in the 1990s, Calvin is excited to finally live in a place that is built to specifically accommodate his distinct disability.
“It’s about time,” Calvin says with a laugh. “A lot of the apartments I’ve had over the years aren’t geared for people with disabilities in general, and as a person who is blind or visually impaired, I had issues navigating around the buildings and the apartments. The Foglia Residences allow me to be comfortable in my surroundings, navigate through my building, confident that I can get in and out safely.”
While Calvin has lived on his own before, he has spent the past several months sharing space with friends and family as he looked to find a place that fit his specific needs. A lifelong Chicagoan, Calvin is also excited about the building’s location in the Illinois Medical District, where it is surrounded by businesses within walking distance and close to transportation that can get him virtually anywhere in the city.
“This was really a game changer for me,” Calvin says. “As soon as I heard about it, I knew I had to get here. It’s important for me and my independence and being a part of my community.”
