BrainPort

BrainPort V100 is a nonsurgical sensory substitution visual aid for people who are profoundly blind. The device translates visual information from a digital camera into electrical stimulation on a user’s tongue.

Described as gentle, bubble-like patterns or vibrations, the user is able to interpret these sensations to determine the shape, size and location of an object, perceive movement, and better understand his or her environment. The BrainPort V100 is to be used in conjunction with other assistive tools and mobility techniques, such as a cane or a guide dog, for added information.
