Michael C. Smith, PhD
Dr. Smith obtained his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Illinois Institute of Technology in 1992 and is a licensed clinical psychologist. He interned at La Rabida Children’s Hospital and Research Center. Since receiving his doctorate, he has had private practice and has been a faculty member teaching in undergraduate, masters and doctoral programs.
Presently, he has a private practice where he sees children, adolescents and adults with a variety of problems in individual, couple, and family therapy.
Dr. Smith has offered both community and professional convention presentations dealing with clinical work, child psychology, and positive psychology. His areas of research interests include equine therapy, adjustment to significant medical problems, and therapy work.
Dr. Smith is married with two sons. Our family goal has been to experience new things consistently while enjoying each other. Our family has also encountered the usual number of negative life events and through the combination of these and many positives in life, has developed supportive and loving relationships. Dr. Smith enjoys travel, his dogs, and staying on his horse.
Michael Smith, Ph.D., Licensed Clinical Psychologist, joined The Lighthouse in 2016 and serves patients at the downtown and Glenview facilities. He earned his Ph.D. and M.S. in Psychology from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), and his B.S. in Psychology from University of Illinois-Springfield. He has taught at the undergraduate, masters level, and doctoral level at Concordia University, Chicago School of Professional Psychology, and Benedictine University. He has a private practice serving children, adolescents, and adults. He has made numerous community and professional presentations. Dr. Smith is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Illinois Psychological Association.
