February 2012 News
February is a short, but sweet month, with Valentine’s Day on Tuesday the 14th. Due to Presidents’ Day, the Lighthouse will be closed on Monday, Feb 20th.
Older Adult of the Month:
Our Older Adult of the Month is Irene Rivera. Irene has been coming to the Lighthouse for several years and has completed her GED here as well as the Office Skills class. Irene also loves to dance and is looking to dance more in the evenings. When working through tough times, Irene says she just takes things one day at a time. This has helped her to live with her vision loss, which was caused by a bad experience with Lasik surgery over 15 years ago. Now Irene is enrolled in computer classes here and is learning very quickly. Thus far, Irene has worked through Talking Typer and is currently working on editing documents in Microsoft Word.
Computer Class: Irene is one of many clients enjoying our computer classes. Clients are doing everything from practicing Microsoft Word to using Email and the internet. Because there are many clients being trained, there is currently no space for new clients. However, we expect to invite people into the class later in the Spring.
Master Computer Class: This month, we will be offering two Master Computer Classes using flash drives and email attachments. These classes will be on Tuesday, Feb 7th from 1 to 3 and Wednesday, Feb 15th from 10 to 12. The classes will be invitation only due to the level of experience needed for this topic. Talk with Alix if you are interested in attending one of these classes. If you are not yet able to attend this class, not to worry, other classes will be presented at different skill levels.
