Orientation and Mobility

This is an image of Cindy Brown walking downtown Chicago with her guide dog.The Chicago Lighthouse Orientation and Mobility Service works with blind and visually impaired individuals in orientation and mobility training. This service incorporates sound teaching methods designed to address safety techniques, independence, and dignity; as well as choices of mobility systems or tools, such as the long white cane, dog guides, and electronic travel aids.

Based on time-tested teaching methodologies, the initial training begins with individual lessons offered with an instructor, generally once a week, on a regular basis.  The schedule is set to best suit the individual; however, it remains flexible if the need arises to alter the pace of lessons, date, time or location.
