Materials
The specially adapted materials and equipment available for loan for the school year from the IIMC are:
- Textbooks: Braille and large print
- Workbooks: Braille and large print
- Equipment: recorders, magnifiers, Perkins Braillers, Braille embossers, Braille N Speaks, Braille Notes, Braille Lites, Pac Mates, closed circuit television magnifiers (desktop, portable and handheld), light boxes, optical aids, mobility equipment, talking calculators, scientific calculators, scanners, Franklin Language Master, digital book players, accessibility software and more.
All items loaned for the school year must be returned to the IIMC for recirculation at the end of the school year or inventoried annually.
The Illinois Instructional Materials Center supplies consumable items such as:
- lined paper, answer sheets, Thermoform paper, Braille paper, tractor feed Braille computer paper, notebooks, large print workbooks, Braille labels
Who
may order materials:
For students who have not graduated from high school – certified teachers of
the visually impaired place the orders, and they must be approved by the Vision
Coordinator/ Consultant. In the absence of a Vision Coordinator/Consultant the
Director of Special Education may give approval.
For students enrolled in a formal education program at mental health facilities with instruction being provided by the mental health facility - each mental health facility orders for these students according to their needs not to exceed the facility's allotment.
How
to order materials:
Order forms may be obtained from the Illinois
Instructional Materials
Center, Vision
Coordinators/ Consultants, and Directors of Special Education. Completed forms
may be faxed or mailed, but not both.

to order materials:
Orders must be placed well in advance of the student's need for materials.
Delivery may take from three weeks to twelve months.
