Lighthouse Intern, Laura Martinez, Profiled by CBS National News

Chicago Lighthouse intern, Laura Martinez, was profiled January 31st on CBS National News.

When Laura Martinez began her internship with the Lighthouse’s cafeteria, little did she dream that it would lead to a national story on CBS and a job offer from renowned Chicago Chef Charlie Trotter!

Last December Laura, who is also a student in the Le Cordon Bleu culinary program, came to the attention of Chicago Tribune reporter Rex Huppke. A nationally syndicated story ensued that was read by Robert Kozberg, a CBS producer in Los Angeles, who approached the Lighthouse about a story. As a surprise feature, Kozberg invited celebrated Chicago Chef Charlie Trotter to meet Laura at the January 15th taping, sample her cooking and offer some words of encouragement.

Chef Trotter was so impressed that he extended an offer of employment! Laura replied that she would be honored to accept! But the recognition didn’t stop there. Blind Babies Foundation of Oakland, California also saw the Tribune article and invited Laura to serve as a guest chef at one of their upcoming house parties.
