The Chicago Lighthouse Convenience Store is a program aimed at reducing the unemployment rate of people who are blind or visually impaired. Partnering with Midwest Orthopaedics, at Rush University Medical Center, Lighthouse’s convenience store is located on the hospital’s campus. The program hires individuals who are either blind or visually impaired and provides them with training and equipment to enable ease, efficiency, and productivity. The interior is aesthetically appealing with a sleek, modern design, while its colors and layout improve mobility and comfort for the employees as well.

Internship opportunities are available to blind or visually impaired individuals seeking to expand work experience, become proficient with assistive devises and technology, as well as sharpen their customer service skills in order to increase their chances and appeal for employment at other companies and organizations.

The Chicago Lighthouse Convenience Store is open Monday through Friday, 7am - 4pm. Customers can select from a wide array of products, including fresh sandwiches/salads, fresh baked goods, candy, snacks, drinks, greeting cards, magazines, and gift items. In addition, ATM and vending services are available.
