Jean Claude B. Kappler, Vice President of Lighthouse Industries, has operational and fiscal responsibility for the plant, whose products are marketed to the federal and commercial sectors with annual sales of $2.7 million; the Vocational Training/Work Adjustment Program and the Recipient Identification Number (RIN) contract with the state of Illinois. He is directly responsible for new product/project development, which can include services. During his tenure, the Industries Program launched the Chicago Lighthouse brand clock line in the commercial office products market 6 years ago, which now represents in excess of 1/3 of total clock sales. Over 168,000 clocks were sold in fiscal year 2008, and over 4.2 million clocks have been sold since 1977. The Recipient Identification Program (RIN) is the latest addition, having started in December, 2008, creating 8 jobs in addition to internships.
Kappler has extensive experience in international and domestic marketing, product /project development and contract negotiations. Past positions include Marketing Manager, Olin Corporation, Winchester Division – Far East/Latin America; VP Operations, Director Marketing, Navy Arms Co.; Director, Military Resale Program, National Industries for the Blind (Marketing, market research and product development). He has worked with the blind community for over 18 years, nearly 9 of which with the Chicago Lighthouse.
Born in Colombia from French parents, he is tri-lingual. He has a Bachelor’s degree from the College of Emporia, KS, is past president of Ridgefield NJ Rotary Club, member of the Central Lions Clun of Chicago; has a son (also Jean Claude), daughter in-law Moriah, and granddaughter Madison Anne.
